WALK OF HONOR
A new pavilion within the Memorial Walkway
at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH
to recognize all branches of service.
The design criteria is as follows:
Elements:
1. Reflect well on all the armed forces
2. have a unifying effet, not emphasizing one service over another
3. provide educational background information on each branch of service
4. tie together the walkway with other monuments
5. must be easily maintained
6. attractive to the eye - a place of honor
7. should accomodate up to 30-35 people on benches
8. should have space enough for others standing on the periphery
9. should have a suitable message on the main stone to inspire all who stand
there and view the Walk of Honor
Function:
1. should serve as a gathering spot for families after a funeral service
2. should serve as an outdoor classroom for New Hampshire school children
to learn of the heroic deeds of our men and women in uniform
3. could serve as a suitable spot for award ceremonies
This plaque is three feet by four feet and will be incorporated
into the Central Fountain design.
The inscription at the bottom will be modified to read:
Dedicated to the men and women who sacrificed their
yesterdays to ensure our free tomorrows –– from a grateful state and nation.
The Central Fountain design will be similar
to the granite fountain located in downtown
Keene.
A low pressure bubbler brings water to the top which
calmly flows back down and over the rough granite blocks.
